At Noah’s Ark Christian Preschool we believe that ultimately the teachers are the living curriculum. What they say and do will be one of your child’s greatest influences so we take their role very seriously. However, taking their role seriously does not mean learning shouldn’t be fun. We go to great lengths to write lesson plans that have fun activities built into them, giving children a chance to explore and opportunities to create, share and discover. Teachers direct children toward learning academically, socially, and spiritually while being aware of their growth physically, mentally and emotionally as well.
Lesson plans are written around a daily schedule created to give children times of busyness and times of rest. They are also written with a variety of activities in mind that teach to the four major learning styles -
kinesthetic, auditory, visual and tactile.
Classrooms for ages two and three-year-olds use a modified version of the A Beka curriculum. A Beka is a faith-based curriculum written by the A Beka Book Corporation in Pensacola, Florida. A Beka not only offers a faith-based component, but guidelines for teaching young children colors, numbers, shapes, and letter recognition and sound as well.
Classrooms for four-year-olds on the VPK only program use the Wee Learn Curriculum. Wee Learn is a faith-based curriculum written by Lifeway Publishing in Nashville, Tennessee. It too provides a faith-based component and introduces children to letters, numbers, colors, and shapes in a creative way, but to a greater extent than the program designed for 2 and 3-year-olds. The curriculum for four-year-olds is intentional in preparing children for kindergarten and in stimulating their aptitude for discovery through play.
Classrooms for four-year-olds on the VPK with ENRICHMENT program use the Wee Learn Curriculum, but also a modified version of the A Beka curriculum. This program goes beyond the development of basic kindergarten readiness skills, introducing children to the concepts of blending, 3-letter- word-building and entry level reading. There is also a greater emphasis in the areas of math, writing and critical thinking skills through games and activities while being sensitive to each child’s developmental level and needs.
In addition to the goals of the chosen curriculum used, the preschool also develops lesson plans for all age groups and programs around weekly themes. From dinosaurs, to circus, to holidays, to seasons, and so much more, lesson plans lead the children to experiencing new ideas, new discoveries, & new adventures in learning.
The faith-based portion of the curriculum is also a vital part of the Preschool’s planning. Teachers plan activities and lessons that teach children about the love of God and different Biblical characters, Bible stories, and Bible truths. Children are taught about prayer and given the opportunity to pray repetitive prayers, as well as their own. They are also taught faith-based songs, and 4-year-olds memorize Scripture.
Attendance to a weekly chapel service is an experience that’s part of our Monday class schedules. All age groups attend the 20-minute service that includes a time of prayer, the singing of songs, and the teaching of an object lesson appropriate for young children.
